Both teams ranking in the top 25 aim to start strong keeping all BCS hopes alive. It’s that time of year where sports enthusiasts and bettors turn to experts for NFL Picks and College Football Picks advise and knowledge of the game. Trusting the opinions of the College Football Lines all season for your weekly dose of match up analysis. Let's see what the preview of this game's future College Football Lines is about.
This will be an early test for the Broncos of Idaho that according to the Vegas College Football Lines are ranked in the top 25 amongst all credible power rankings (i.e. ESPN, AP Top 25, Coach’s Poll, BCS). With the shoes of the winningest quarterback in college football history (Kellen Moore) needing to be filled, this season is a crucial one for a program that has boasted tremendous advancements as Boise State has. Football handicappers will have to speculate to see what the QB position is going to be before giving out their expert college football picks against the college football spreads.
The past four seasons have proven Boise is a contender as far as the areas of recruitment, player development, and overall records are concerned. However, the Broncos are rebuilding this season, as their top five defensive linemen are gone, leaving room for cappers to question the success of this team. Look for the Vegas Lines to be on the favor of the opposing team. While experience exists on this side of the ball coming from senior cornerbacks Jamar Taylor and Jerrell Gavins, three of the top four ends in spring ball have not played a snap of college football.
Defenses may go unappreciated when the team’s offense operates at such high levels of efficiency as Boise has been doing with Moore at the helm. Although Moore is gone, the spring game left College Football Lines hopeful for what is to come of this season’s west coast offense from Chris Petersen. Along with the loss of Kellen Moore, Boise State will be looking at D.J. Harper to step in for one of the top backs in the nation last season, Doug Martin, a viable tackle for the consensus All-American Nate Potter, and lastly the school record-holder for touchdown catches in a season, Tyler Shoemaker.
Returning from another winning season, capped with the defeat of the projected number one seed to come out of the SEC, Georgia, Michigan State is poised to remain amidst the top of the conference. In each of the past two seasons, Michigan State has won eleven games, making it one of only seven programs in the country to do so – joining Virginia Tech, LSU, Oklahoma State, Wisconsin, Oregon as Stanford. College Football Lines will have a handful when predicting the outcome of Michigan States’ weekly matchups.
MSU’s Defense
Not an area of concern for the Spartans. They return eight starters from the side of the ball that ranked sixth in the nation in total defense, leading the Big Ten in rush defense, sacks and interceptions. With two All-American candidates in William Gholston and Johnny Adams leading the defense, cappers are poised to weekly plug them into the match up equation.
MSU’s Offense
Andrew Maxwell will likely be taking over for NFL Draft pick Kirk Cousins. College football analysts and recruiters hold high hopes for Maxwell given his two-year stint behind Cousins. Supplementing his experience, Maxwell is a strong-armed pocket passer, more athletic than Cousins enabling him to throw on the run. Two other voids to be filled lie within the wide receiver positions, where two wide outs were chosen to the NFL Draft in 2012.
The program boasts five talented receivers, all of them capable of stepping in this season and assuming this responsibility. As far as the frontline goes, four returning starters give the Spartans a mature, established offensive line for the first time since Mark Dantonio took the position as head coach. Just two weeks left until the start of the college football season, and VegasSportsCappers.com is keen on predicting the College Football Lines with expert analysis. Saturday, September 1st, the country will enjoy an early ACC clash between Miami (FL) and Boston College. Both teams are coming off disappointing 2011 campaigns, with BC taking the last regular season game from the Hurricanes. College Football Lines previews the matchup. Remember, College Football Lines is the source of expert college football picks from which bettors and aficionados rely on.
As the Canes gear up for what seems to be another grind of a season, College Football Lines foreshadows what is to come for this NCAA sanctioned program. The University of Miami appears to be in rebuilding mode yet again with a toss up in the quarterback position, voids of offensive production to be filled, and a defense in search for leadership and experience. Handicappers have his/her hands full when providing expert college football picks against college football spreads, given the issues surrounding this program.
The offense returns five starters, three of which are on the offensive line. Another season arrives where the quarterback position is up for grabs, this year it is between the returning back up Stephen Morris and promising transfer Ryan Williams. Since the days of Ken Dorsey, “The U” has been unsuccessful in finding a consistent player at this field general position. Whoever earns the starting role will be throwing to players with little experience, given that 55 percent of the teams’ receiving yards departed. As history tends to repeat itself, Miami’s backfield is the least of the worries on this side of the ball. Mike James brings much knowledge and maturity necessary to aid in the production loss from Lamar Miller, and mentorship of highly anticipated freshman dynamic Randy “Duke” Johnson.
Defense has always been the strength of the Miami program. However, losing three starters and two key reserves is rough for a team trying to re-establish themselves. Briefly, the woeful defense will be starting a converted D-end, a converted backer, and three returning secondary players who managed only six interceptions. Leadership will need to come from returning starters Anthony Chickillo and Ray-Ray Armstrong.
The 2011 season for Boston College was capped with a win over the Hurricanes at Miami (FL). Although last season was a disaster resulting in BC’s first losing campaign since 1998, hopes remained afloat within this winning program. This was until the school’s all-time leading rusher was dismissed in the spring for another infringement of team rules.
BC’s Offense
As a new leaf is turned, individuals must begin to step up and assume responsibility. As the offensive line remains the cornerstone of this program, offensive production will take some time to develop as College Football Lines experts conclude an inconsistency at the quarterback position, no down field threat at wide receiver, and a featured back with lacking confidence due to his past problems with ball security.
BC’s Defense
As if things could not get worse, the program lost its’ sole All-American, linebacker Luke Kuechly, to the NFL Draft. Although this is a major blow, the pass rush was not sustained last season, leaving the secondary to take the brunt of the fault. All in all, linebacker remains the strength of the BC defense with outside linebackers Kevin Pierre-Louis and Steele Divino showing promise of picking up Kuechly’s contributions. Offense. Can Nick Florence follow the footsteps of Heisman Trophy winner Robert Griffin. Coach Art Briles has to find replacements for center Philip Blake, receiver Kendall Wright, and the amazing running back Terrance Ganaway. Is not going to be easy, your talking about replacing the best player in college football last year. This talent that left can affect the College Football Lines like Tom Brady can affect the NFL Point Spreads.
Griffin was taken in the 2nd spot in the NFL draft. He threw for an amazing 10,000 yards in his fantastic career. The Bears new quarterback Florence started seven games in 2009. Last year he threw for 151 yards and two touchdowns in the second half of a 66-42 win over Texas Tech. He will be a favorite of all the top College Football Picks.
Baylor is going to have to have players become more accountable, become better playmakers, and are going to have to scheme differently, says Briles. The Bears will have plenty of options after losing Wright, their all time receiver with returning starters Lanear Sampson and Terrance Williams on the outside and junior Tevin Reese at the inside spot. On the offensive line, senior Ivory Wade has moved from tackle to replace Blake at center and is flanked by starters Cyril Richardson and Cameron Kaufhold at guard.
DEFENSE. Baylor's defense was terrible last year, they gave up a school-record 6,350 yards and 37.2 points per game. Junior K.J. Morton promises that the defense will be much better this season. Morton had four interceptions last year. The coaches, are going to get everybody ready and put the players in better places this season to make more big plays.
The secondary returns all of the players from last year. They have a lot of depth after losing four corners to injuries last season. Joe Williams turned into a great corner. He played opposite Morton, while Sam Holl and Mike Hicks have been playing for two years at safeties. The Bears have some quality ends in Gary Mason, Terrance Lloyd and Chris McAllister. Bryce Hager moves into the middle spot in the linebacking core that could be the fastest unit the Bears ever had.
FINAL ANALYSIS. While Briles wants to sustain and build on the momentum of bowl berths they had two years in a row. He is expecting a small drop off, after losing many of the best offensive players in the school's history. The Bears schedule is a hard one these season, they play eight bowl teams and 2011 FCS runner-up Sam Houston State. Contending for a Big 12 championship would be great, but a berth in another bowl game would be more realistic of a goal.
